What We Build
TheGameDNA offers four core tools. The Franchise Explorer lets you browse complete game series sorted by critic score, user score, and the gap between them — revealing which sequels disappointed, which were underrated by press, and which entries represent the creative peak of a series. The Game Detail Pagesgo beyond a simple score, providing community rating breakdowns, genre context, developer history, and a “Gamer's Perspective” section that translates raw metadata into actionable player advice.
The GameGuessr Quiz is a daily and random-mode game where players identify titles from in-game screenshots. It challenges your visual gaming knowledge across a rotating pool drawn from the top-rated titles in our database, with a live leaderboard updated in real time. Finally, the Gamer Identity tool analyses your personal game collection and maps your play style across five psychological dimensions — generating a shareable identity profile unique to you.
The Gamer Identity Algorithm
The Identity Radar is a five-dimension behavioural model that maps your game library onto the following axes:
Reflexes
Derived from Action, Shooter, Racing, and Fighting genres. Measures your affinity for games demanding fast motor responses and split-second decision-making.
Strategy
Derived from Strategy, Puzzle, Card, and RTS genres. Measures your preference for games rewarding long-term planning and systems thinking.
Persistence
Derived from Platformer, RPG, Souls-like, and Massively Multiplayer genres. Measures your appetite for long-form challenge, progression, and completion.
Social
Derived from Multiplayer, Sports, and Simulation genres. Measures how central shared play and community are to your gaming identity.
Narrative
Derived from Adventure, RPG, and Visual Novel genres. Measures your investment in storytelling, world-building, and character-driven experiences.
Each dimension score is normalised to 0–100. The two highest-scoring dimensions are compared: if they are within 25 points of each other, a hybrid archetype is assigned (e.g. "The Tactician-Bard"). Otherwise, the dominant dimension determines a pure archetype. The result is a unique identity class paired with a psychological narrative profile generated specifically from your score distribution.
Our Data Sources
Game metadata, screenshots, developer information, and community rating breakdowns are sourced from the RAWG Video Games Database API. Critic scores are sourced from Metacritic. All data is stored in a managed Supabase database and refreshed periodically. We do not claim ownership of any game assets, screenshots, or third-party scores. All trademarks belong to their respective owners.
Who Built This
TheGameDNA is an independent project built by a small team of developers and gamers who wanted better tools for understanding the medium they love. We are not affiliated with any game publisher, studio, or rating organisation. Our goal is to make gaming data more accessible, more honest, and more personal.
